After what seemed like ages of waiting, what Microsoft called “the next generation of Windows” is here. It’s representative of a big shift in how Microsoft delivers Windows, but it’s also a big UX overhaul as well. On top of that, it’s getting Android app support, a new Store, and much more.

However, another loophole was found that allowed Windows 7 and 8 link.1 users upgrade to Windows 10 using existing licenses, even though the free upgrade offers officially ended in 2017. No word from Microsoft was given whether it will be closed and some outlets have continued to promote it as a free method of upgrading from the now-unsupported Windows 7. Other features such as word wrap and transparency were also added. These functions can be disabled to revert to the legacy console if needed. The Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection suite is due to receive a host of new capabilities in the upcoming Creators Update, including end-to-end protection for Windows devices, according to Microsoft. One of the new features in Windows 10's Fall Creators Update will be to allow users to read Microsoft's full privacy statement on startup if they wish, in a bid to offer users more transparency.
Instead, they chose to make this a good old-fashioned "big bang" release, with a new major version number and a laundry list of new features. At the risk of stating the blindingly obvious, Windows 11 is the successor to Windows 10. Clicking Switch will open the Microsoft Store and prompt you to “Get” the full version, akin to installing an app. Once you do that, your PC will switch over to its full version of Windows 10 and you’ll be free to install whatever apps you wish. If that sounds like another OS you’re familiar with, you’re not wrong–it’s a lot like Google’s ChromeOS for its Chromebooks. Microsoft even made Windows 10 in S mode to run on ARM processors, so it’s intentionally designed to work well on hardware that wouldn’t normally run Windows 10 very smoothly.
So, while Windows 11 is a free upgrade for Windows 10 users, it's not necessarily going to be available to all Windows 10 users. There's a ton of under-the-hood changes, including thereintroduction of the iconic Blue Screen of Death error warning . Windows 11 is the newest operating system from Microsoft, and it comes with a few improvements over Windows 10.
Windows 10 Insider Preview builds are delivered to Insiders in three different channels (previously "rings"). Insiders in the Dev Channel receive updates prior to those in the Beta Channel , but might experience more bugs and other issues. Insiders in the Release Preview Channel do not receive updates until the version is almost available to the public, but are comparatively more stable. The new design language will include the more prominent use of motion, depth, and translucency effects.
